"It's More than a Snap" Exhibition by Shingha Theatre X Kubrick

The Enigma of 66

Film, they use. With a texture after the exposure of silver salts, film inebriates one’s eyes in the fine fibers of things: white sand, yellowish joss sticks, rosy flowers and contours of a child’s face. Where life has forgotten, lenses capture the shadows and routines of the ordinary, showing swirls of chaotic colors. The sky, flowers, girls, stairs, joss sticks, road signs, children and bodies – we gawk at this world of silver salts. Is the longing from the wonder of minerals, or one’s vanity?
The camera snaps: the hem of a neighborly pretty dame’s dress; the proud black grackle in a Chinese apothecary, a feline socialite on a checked floor of green and white.
While the photos are being printed, we willingly wait, saying that it needs not rush, though our minds imagine nascent images for millions of times. At last, in our hands is a paper bag, in which lie the printed photos and a film, punctured with holes cleanly at the sides. Delicately, we slip photo after photo into an album. This is a key ritual. In a decade, photos will fade with mold; still, the woman will be as charming, the stuck-up grackle and the numbness left by the cat’s knead will be as vivid, as if we were reliving each scene. Is this the secret of silver salts? Like sorcerer’s stones, silver salts make our memories imprinted. The longer the printing process, the more worthwhile the wait, the more deeply are memories etched. Trails of faded hues and mold represent how time elapses. Indeed, photos and red wine are the same: the older, the more aromas to taste.
At this fast-everything age, things never seem to stop. What you need is an exhibition that settles you.

Exhibition by Shingha Theatre X Kubrick

Shingha Theatre X Kubrick X Photo Exhibition
Dedicated to promoting development of the artistic culture of Hong Kong, Shingha Theatre and Kubrick embark on their first co-project this July. Themed “It's More than a Snap”, the exhibition presents to the audience the art of six budding photographers.

Photographed memory, photographed minds…
Shingha Theatre is all about “heart”, the heart to create, be it an opportunity for performance, or a platform for creation. These six photographers, similarly, with their eyes and lenses, infuse their thoughts and creativity into rolls of film. The photos in the exhibition aren’t ordinary at all. They mark the entrances to the thoughts and beliefs of six local artists. Come closer, come into the photos, you’ll find yourself unexpectedly amazed.

An unstoppable journey of experiments
With “Creativity trumps content” as motto, Shingha Theatre is an attitude of “unstoppable experiments”. It has created countless, diverse platforms for youths to express their creation, and explore the limitless possibilities in art and culture. Since 2007, Shingha Theatre has staged many productions and organized workshops in experimental theater. Collaborating with artistic groups in Taiwan has broken geographic boundaries and opened new grounds for local youths’ artistic development, providing them the space and platform to express their views, and pursue different ways of artistic creation. This time, Shingha takes a further step towards experimentation: join hands with six local photographers in this exhibition, themed “It's More than a Snap”. Through the media of photos and text, art will once again link creators and observers.
Co-organized by Shingha Theatre and Kubrick, the “It's More than a Snap” Exhibition will run for a month from July 13 till August 16 in Kubrick, Yau Ma Tei Hongkong. The Opening Ceremony will be held on July 17, 7:00 p.m. at the same venue.
